Exhaust Buzz

I have a Thermal 2.25" exhuast. Whenever I hit 4500 rpm or so, my exhaust starts buzzing. It never did this until this fall. Has anyone had this problem?

I am trying to figure out if I need a new rear section/muffler, or if I need a new resonator, or if my hi flow cat is bad.

4500 rpm eh?

I'd say check the heat shield that is closest to the muffler, right before the turn in the exhaust. Mine was rubbing at around that rpm. Solution. . . I took mine off.

Same here (check previous post). 4500 RPMs is where VTEC kicks in by default, and that definitely has something to do with it on my ride. I'm convinced it's something in my original cat that's come loose - it doesn't sound like a leak, but more like something raspy in my exhaust somewhere. It's hasn't seemed to affect performance, and until I need to pass smog, I'm just going to leave it.

When I adjusted my valves recently, the sound changed (I initially and mistakenly thought that's what was causing it).

Well, I am probably going to change the cat out, and take that heat shield off...

Hopefulyl that fixes it, otherwise, I am goign with a new exhaust.

Any recommendations?

If you still happen to have the stock header, it sounds like the noise/rpm range the double walled a-pipe makes when the welds go.

Cpa, I thought that particular vibration was always at 3500 rpm.

I doubt it's really RPM specific, but is usually more prominent in mid-range somehwere.

no, its not the double walled a pipe or whatever.

It is strictly echaust, either cat, resonator or muffler. It really pisses me off, cuz it makes me looklike a huge ricer.
